I read a report tonight from LinkedIn in which they explained the keys to cutting through the noise in Content Marketing. The report was filled with many interesting statistics, but one, in particular, stood out to me:

“In 2 years, online video will make up 70% of consumer internet traffic.” LinkedIn

That means that 7 out of every 10 online consumers viewing a web page will be viewing a video this time next year.

Knowing how most people operate, most people will look up two years from now and see a video-dominated market. They will see their top competitors taking advantage of many different types of videos, containing varying messages and stories.

Most people will look up in two years and think:

“Man, I wish I would have started making videos two years ago. Then I would have enough content to actually do something with.”

Do you want to be most people? Or do you want to be the person that most people wish they were more like?

If you are as ambitious as me, you want to set examples, innovate, create waves, and be the one doing things other people wish they had the work ethic or discipline to do.

Of course, that takes hard work and dedication.

It’s not easy to produce content that is relevant to your audience; especially content that will help them connect with your brand and eventually become a satisfied customer or client.

But in marketing, if something is easy, it is usually expensive.

You can take the easy road and pay Google for your website traffic. There’s nothing wrong with that, I help clients do it all the time. But if you want to take your marketing to the next level, you need to differentiate your brand and company through content that shows why your company is the one that best fits their needs.

Content creation is not easy because for it to be good, you actually have to do something that few people have the time or energy to do: Create.

How many times have you looked up and said:
“I wish I would have started doing that two years ago.”
“I wish I would have started a college fund for my kids five years ago.”
“I wish I would have started contributing more to my IRA years ago.”

How many of these statements must we make before we take advantage of the opportunities right in front of our faces?

If you start producing video content right now, you will be one of those successful businesses two years from now reaping the benefits!

Don’t you want to be one of those people? I do. That’s why I started producing my own video content.

In marketing, if something is easy, it is usually expensive.

Eleven months ago I was working as a Digital Marketing Consultant for one of the largest and most well-established digital marketing companies in the world.

There came a point when I realized that I knew more about what we were doing than most of the people I worked with. I was bringing in new clients only to then be limited in what I could do for them, because of the lack of freedom you have within the infrastructure of a large company.

I had a decision to make: Continue to work for someone else’s company while not being able to perform the full scope of services that I wanted to, or leave and start my own company.

I left my job in Denver, CO in August of 2015, now I run my own digital marketing consultancy in Amsterdam. I perform the services that I want to perform, for prices that I think are fair, and I love it more and more every day.

Content creation is not easy because for it to be good, you actually have to do something that few people have the time or energy to do: Create.

At the core of the decision I made, I just wanted to be able to look up in two years and be able to say:

“I’m really glad I made that leap two years ago. Look where I am today because of it.”

I always tell clients “Digital marketing is not rocket science.” But it’s not instant pudding either. It takes time and commitment to get a strategy and put it into action. But once you do, the results are as satisfying as a tall, cold beer after a juice cleanse. (#nomorekalehipsters)
