Twitter is one of the easiest social media profiles to set up for your business, although there is one trip-up that can give you problems.
The first step is to go to Twitter.com and click the “Sign-Up” button on the top of the page.
The second step is to fill out your basic profile information.
Notice here first you’re asked to enter your full name. This is what will show up in the section with the arrow pointing to it below.
I recommend putting the full name of your business here. If your full name will not fit, make sure you use something that your customers will recognize and identify as your company. This will also show up on your tweets as well.
As you can see, this is the first name people see in your tweets and it’s in bold. This is why it’s important to choose something you’re customers will recognize your company by.
The next step is to enter in your email or a phone number. If you enter in an email (which is what I recommend) it has to be a different email from the one you use for your personal Twitter account.

Choosing a username: This one can be challenging as it can be tough to find a username that is not taken if you have a business name similar to other companies and the character limit is small. However, as you can see in the pictures above the username is a bit less visible than the full name, so it’s not terrible if you can’t find the perfect name. The username is what people will see when they search for you business though, or if they tweet you, so again you want this username to represent your business. You don’t want people to have to guess that this is your company.

Now for the part that can trip people up…..
As you can see, Twitter devotes a whole page to asking you to verify your phone number when signing up. There’s nothing wrong with using a phone number for verification, as it improves security and keeps you safer from being hacked. But some people when setting their business profile already have a personal profile, and they’ve usually already used their phone number to verify their personal profile.
But Twitter won’t let you use the same phone number for two different accounts. So many people try putting in their same phone number because it’s the only one they have, and then panic when Twitter won’t let them advance in the sign-up process because they can’t put in a phone number.
But what gets lost in all that panic, anger, general frustration with technology (okay… maybe it’s not that bad) is the tiny little “Skip” button at the bottom of the page. You would be amazed at the thousands of people who abandon setting up a Twitter profile because of this one step… never seeing the skip button!
After either verifying your phone number or clicking the elusive skip button, you now have a Twitter profile! Now you can start encouraging your current customers to start following you by giving them your @username, or you can start connecting with new prospects by running ads!
